A Guide to Safety for Young Athletes

Sports injuries that cause a bruise or sprain in adults can be a serious injury for your child because it can damage the growth plate. Growth plates are the areas of developing cartilage where bone growth occurs in children. These areas are weaker than the nearby ligaments and tendons and much more susceptible to injury.

Injuries in children require a greater focus on improving gross and fine motor skills, balance and coordination, strength and endurance as well as cognitive and sensory processing. Our physical therapists are specially trained to help children with these kinds of injuries recover.

Pediatric Orthopedics of Southwest Florida offers the only physical therapy center and sports medicine clinic in the region that’s just for kids. To make an appointment, call 239-432-5100.
